Healthy Granola Bars

Last week the FIS food technology class made toasted muesli – wholegrain, and delicious. We particularly enjoyed eating it sprinkled on our banana thickshake (frozen banana blended with soy milk).

The food technology extension class started a new investigation into granola bars (or muesli bars). We love to have them in our lunch box – if they are yummy. But bought ones are often very high in sugar, and not so yummy. We are experimenting to come up with a yummy and healthy recipe over this term. Today we looked at two different base recipes, then each group chose their own “add-ins” from cranberries, raisins, pumpkin seeds, almonds, dried apricots, dried papaya and carob chocolate (a favourite). We ended up with some quite creative and different looking granola bars, which have been officially taste-tested by the Hands-On clan, with written feedback! Watch this space for take 2.
